heros for a day

Heros for a day, a rock band from nashville, are an ever changing group in the scene. They seem to be on the cusp of a few different sounds, as their influences are many. on any given show, one may hear santanaesque guitar solos, broken up with a jimmy page inspired bow strum, or the digitech happy bass that literally resonates your entire body. While at the same time a robotic like beat plays underneath it all- and up front is day, the little lady with the lung capacity to fill a hefty bag. Hopefully, they will catch someone's eye, but not after their ears have stopped ringing.

They graciously answered some of our questions...

We see you have a four song demo available online and at shows...are there plans for a full length sometime soon?
The demo was intended to be a complete album, however our sound engineer sadly passed away from cancer before the other tracks were completed.

Do you have any mp3's available?
Yes, on our site, herosforaday.com

What have you been doing in your down time the last couple of months?
Probation, trying to get day to move, updating x from the 80's, having a fucking blast, and writing 9 new songs.

What is the near future for hfad?
Working our asses off, playing shows, and completing an 11 song album.

What is hfad currently listening to?
cab over pete, portishead, tool, system of a down, alice n' chains, ani difranco, and zeppelin.

Do you see your sound growing more aggressive? not saying that at anytime the heros were soft, but definitely now there may be some kids slamming to the harder songs.
Aggressive yes, but very controlled. We are watching that we don't end up following the sound that is overrunning the radio format. we still like big 60's guitar solos.

Individually, what do each of you bring to a hfad song? Is there any fighting?
There are not any fights about music. If you bring an idea to the table you have to back it up. Basically if you play it and it sucks, you and everyone in the room will know it. If it rocks, then it makes the cut. Some of the most ridiculous ideas have been played out in practice. There is no individuality in the band- only balance. in "siver twins," there is a 16 bar guitar solo. originally it was 4 bars. However, we felt that a longer solo conveyed a more meaningful tone to the song. hfad songs are written for balance, not four parts.

We're always interested as to what people are saying. what are some examples of what day sings about? I see a lot of people yelling "fuck you too" at shows. What is that about?
If you listen to the words of "shattered breath" (fuck you too), you would basically see that it is about being pissed off at someone. Someone always gets on your ass telling you you are not good enough, even when you have done your best. I am saying 'fuck that- practice what you preach, asshole.' as for the others, I keep the lyrics real. It is all about life, tragedies, loneliness, happiness, and being pissed basically.-day

Describe your music.
abrasive, controlled, balance...

"balance...the darker side...control" I see the heros have been watching some star wars. we are fans of star wars as well. Speaking of fans, you guys have a very loyal fan base (especially kevin). What are you doing to promote your sound and increase it?
Yes, we are very lucky to have such fans. As a band we hope to build our fan base slowly, why? Simply they are more loyal and tend to stay after the trend changes (i.e. ani, clutch, tori) to promote our sound we have added two new promotion and production members (snow white and jennie from the kelly's heros days) they book shows, make fliers, and talk to as many people as they can about our sound and they open doors that the band can't. also, the website has become a hub of information.

Tell the people what dark smurf productions is.
d.s.p. is a production idea. it is set up to manage new bands and also to book less known bands with bands that have established themselves. for more info contact joe brooks 615-781-2491. heros for a day and dark smurf productions are a collaboration but not one and the same.
