Tapping the source, a slow and steady underground movement shows
there is a more aggressive force about to emerge. Black Belt Jones has
been dominating since it first hit the hardcore scene in 1998 and has
kept pounding out live shows relentlessly. The intensely deep grooves
thump the entire club due to the patented low-end sound of the band.
In 1998 Black Belt's self-titled six song EP was released, selling as
quick as they could be printed. Towards the end of 1999 the first full-
length album was cut called the "Texorcist". Towards the end of recording,
tragedy hit the band with the loss of singer Cody Wruble on the way home
from recording. After time, the band regrouped feeling they had worked
too hard to give up on all that had been accomplished in their time together.
A friend of the band with amazing stage presence and vocal capabilities
offered to help. Jack Brekenridge picked up the mic and poured his heart
into the already solid sound. This opened the floodgates on creativity
and helped rededicate and focus the multiple talents of the band.
Black Belt Jones put their heads and hearts into their music. Black Belt's
style is all about the heavy grooves that will make the fan at the back
of the club bob his or her head, but when the groove seems to be expected,
a curve ball will be thrown in with a phat half time or an eerie interlude.
They create hard chunky riffs with tough grooves and sometimes throw
a classic cover in Black Belt Style to show intelligence and drop a seed
of curiosity in the listener's ear.
Black Belt Jones originated from several local acts such as Bad Lieutenant,
Pusher, Watercloset, and Outhouse Dilemma. Collectively these guys are
seasoned pros with recording experience, road miles, and performances
with metal kings Pantera, Soilent Green, and Guzzard just to name a few.
Black Belt Jones is bursting onto the scene with something original and
fierce. It is safe to place bets on Black Belt Jones, because they are
always the last band standing.
